2015 Chapter 6/Chapter 21 "Loose Gathering" in Quartzsite!

2015 Chapter 6/Chapter 21 "Loose Gathering" in Quartzsite!
This year's gathering in Quartzsite was a booming success.  It was the largest group ever since we began doing this in January 2004.  Over the 2 week span of Jan. 11 - Jan. 25 we had a total of 38 rigs and 72 happy campers coming and going the entire time.  Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised by those numbers.
On a pre-gathering note, Thursday, Jan.15 19 of us went to Silly Al's for supper.  We arrived early enough that they were able to seat all of us together and a good time was had by all.

The official start of the gathering was on Monday, Jan.19 and a guest, Andy Hitzel, prepared roasted turkey on a spit over a mesquite wood fire.  He actually used two 15 pound turkeys that he tied together on his homemade motor driven barbecue spit.  After the preliminary work of preparing the birds, he just sat around feeding the fire as needed for about 4 and a half hours.  He likes to say he sits and drinks beer, but he was kept busier than he will admit.  Everyone else brought a dish and it turned into a wonderful pot luck supper.
On Wednesday, Jan. 21 Bruce prepared his annual soup, this year it was an easy Ministrone with the addition of leftover turkey and some chicken provided by Donna Struble.  At the same time we had a Polar Bear party.  Both were enjoyed by all 52 folks who were present.  We had quite a time finding freezer space for 6 half gallons of ice cream and 60 pounds of ice.  On Friday one of the girls, Marilyn White, asked what she should do with the ice cream still in her freezer, and that brought on the idea of yet another Polar Bear party on Saturday since we still had 20 pounds of ice left.  Of course we did...couldn't let that ice cream go to waste.
Of the 38 rigs present we had 7 Chapter 6 rigs (including 1 new member), and 21 Chapter 21 rigs (including 3 new members).  We also had many folks who stopped by to say hello and visit for a spell.
Big thanks go out to all who helped make it so much fun and we look forward to doing it again next year.  Come join us and find out what it's all about.
